Attention All Readers: Opinion Needed!

So, I have a few ideas that have been making their way through my mind lately concerning the blog, and I need some feedback, as I want to tailor what I write to fit my audience’s preferences. As you know, I write about all things gaming, from reviews of games to my opinion on touchy topics, to new bits of important info. Recently, I’ve even written an article about chickens; yes, chickens. In any case, seeing that there is so much to write about, I have to ask: what do you want to see?

So, aside from the “usual” topics for me to blog about, I’ve had some more, shall we say, interesting ideas as of late. I’m going to introduce them to you, and you tell me if I should try it, if you would read it, or if I should just act like I never even thought of the idea because it was just that bad.  Your input is needed in the comment section below.

Idea 1: Trying my hand at gaming related poetry. I don’t enjoy reading poetry because I don’t understand it. Would you read poetry if it were about a topic like this; something you understood and loved? If a gaming related poem or epic would be something you might want to read, let me know in the comments.

Idea 2: Simplifying the Halo canon. As you might know, I’m a huge Halo fan. One thing about the series is that the story can be quite confusing; oftentimes, I find myself scratching my head until I consult the Wiki or head to one of the books, or even look in one of the game manuals for a date or name. Would you read an article that simplified the Halo storyline for ease of understanding? Just for my sake, I might write it anyway, but if you want it prioritized on my list, let me know in the comments.

Idea 3: Collaborations with another (or multiple) blogger(s). I’ve been toying with the idea of asking a blogger friend or two to help me write an article, or even to be a featured blogger. Would you like to see a post where two bloggers give their differing views on the same topic? Would you like to be one of those featured bloggers? Even loftier, what if we all grouped together and wrote a gaming book to be published? What do you think of that? Comment below!

So, these are my three big ideas at the moment. I can’t stress to you enough just how important your input and feedback is to this post. IF YOU ARE READING THIS, I NEED YOUR OPINION. Please respond, even if it your response is as simple as “Yes, no, yes and I want to help.” Seriously; if you’ve read this far, the ten seconds it’ll take to type a response is nothing in comparison. Sorry, I’m usually not a beggar or groveler…

Thanks For Your Help

  1. Idea One:
As a poet I can’t help but strongly discourage this idea. Not only would it contribute to the further confusion and conflation of poetic expression with poetry (non-art with art), it is something that you admit you do not understand. Attempting to navigate something you don’t understand, with no real grasp of the material, is a very bad idea.

    Idea Two:
This would make an interesting series of posts and most especially for people interested in Halo. I’m neither interested in the XBoxes nor Halo, but that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t be interested in the story. I’m not sure how long this series of posts could be but weekly instalments that were properly portioned could stretch this out, as well as instalments designed to flesh out or examine particular characters and environments.

    Idea Three:
This idea seems to me to have the most merit, provided that clear goals are set and standards outlined. Different writers should definitely keep to their writing style and flavour, however things like clarity and length of posts should be kept consistent. With that said, I think that this idea fit well within the ‘weekly series’ notion I offered in respect to Idea Two.

Ultimately, what you write about is your choice and I think that you should avoid prostituting yourself to any particular audience. You have a brain and you genuinely care about gaming. It seems to me that the best thing to do for your blog as a whole would be to find the particular niche/angle/what-have-you that interests you the most and use that as the core of your blog while spicing things up from time to time with the sorts of things in the ideas you’ve mentioned.

For example, my girlfriend and I are both disaffected gamers and have recently decided to fold our gaming blogs together and write in the same space ( Our ‘Read Me’ page outlines our intent and this serves to not only let other people know what the place is for but to keep us focused as well. As disaffected gamers, we want to connect with others that notice the same things we do and have a dialogue with them and, at the same time, we want to be able to at least gesture to some of the really fantastic things in gaming despite the current state of affairs. That’s our niche.

I’m sure you will be able to find the angle that fits you the best. People interested in what you have to say will find you if you tag your entries well and, as we all hope, will continue to read your entries and perhaps even participate in dialogue. Keep at it.

  2. hey, I like the idea of gaming poetry, and how else are you going to know if you don’t try. I listen to all kinds of fan made gaming music with awesome references. Ironically, I was thinking of gaming poetry myself the other day.

If you want to write about halo, write about halo dude! Balls to the wall.

Collaborations I’m all for. Awesome Idea. You know to where to find me if you need help.

As always, excellent catching up 🙂

    1. Thanks for the thoughts; I’m keeping tally of all the yes and no answers to everything, I’l definitely keep you and Wolflord in mind for collaborations. Might be a flip-a-coin deal lol

  3. 1. I’m not sure. I have no clue what your skills are as a poet, and I’ve never read “gaming poetry” so I guess you’ll have to test the waters for that one.

    2. Actually sounds really cool, especially for people like me who can’t afford to buy every game in a series just to learn the lore.

    3. Sounds pretty cool, and I would like to help (I can name a couple times I’ve basically done that in your comments section, lol) So yeah, message me if you’d like to do that.

Now here’s the thing about all this. You probably haven’t noticed this, but I haven’t uploaded onto Youtube for awhile. I could say I’ve been busy, but that is far from the biggest reason. The main reason is that I got bored of it, because I started cutting less popular series, playing only what I think people want to watch. I started uploading only one video a day because it is what people wanted to watch. I will be starting it back up soon, with stuff that I want to play, recording as much as I want. Never let what other people want from you overshadow what you want from yourself. It’s cool to ask for opinions like this, just be careful not to let it take over.

    1. Thanks for the input, and the insight. I’m not selling out; I just wanted to see what people thought of these ideas, since they’re a bit different from what I usually do. When it comes down to it though, I’m always going to do what I want, but I like second (and third and fourth) opinions
